Why do companies give free stuff away? We've been asked this many times and there are lots of reasons.

Companies often have huge marketing budgets. Sometimes they use this budhet to advertise their products on TV, billboards, sides of buses, and giving away free samples is often just part of the whole marketing experience.
They figure that if you try it and like it you'll use it - which means they'll make money from you in the long run. This is particularly true of free samples of shampoo and conditioner, and makeup, as these lend themselves well to free samples sachets.

Gymns and other clubs often give away free trial membership passes to show you what their gymn is like and how nice it is. They hope that you'll enjoy the experience enough to sign up as a member.

It is always worth contacting your local authority to find out what facilities they have available. Costs are normally cheaper than proivate gyms and pools. You may also find a membership scheme for local residents makes it cheaper still!
